Heroism, for actor and singer Sam Milby, is “making a difference in other people’s lives.” And that is exactly what he has been doing by sponsoring the education of eight children through the World Vision program. Sam thinks people who have the resources ought to do something for others, which is part of the reason he has devoted some precious time for this year’s Ayala Malls Christmas Concert series.

At the recent launch of the Ayala Malls holiday campaign at Lolo Dad’s 6750, Sam and fellow actor/singer Piolo Pascual were two of the featured guests, made up mostly of representatives from various humanitarian foundations.

This is because Ayala Malls decided this year to link up with Habitat for Humanity, Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundatio, Children’s Hour, Hero Foundation, World Wide Fund (WWF) and the Ayala Foundation to “inspire people to give more of themselves — time, talent, treasure — this Christmas season,” says Ayala Malls president Antonio Aquino in his welcome remarks.
“Inspire is a word we have chosen because we know it is something Filipinos would like to have during the Christmas season,” Aquino added. “We hope the generosity of our shoppers would be properly channeled to our partner foundations.”

Hosted by RJ Ledesma, the holiday campaign launch billed “Inspire” was highlighted by the unveiling of the tunnel artwork by Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala. With the theme “Parol,” the colorful montage features photographs of people in classical terno and barong. The look is traditional Filipino, with actual Christmas lanterns (parols) hanging in the appropriate places for a “3D” effect. “We all had good fun doing it,” shares Don Jaime, revealing that the “models” for the scenes were Ayala employees and some of their children.

After the artwork unveiling, the featured personalities went onstage to talk about their part in the campaign. Piolo Pascual, who is participating in the activities for the fourth time this year, will perform tonight, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m., at Trinoma with Yeng Constantino. Piolo expressed his support for the Ayala Malls’ effort to inspire others to give, saying, “People want to help, but don’t know how or where to go. This is a chance for them to give back.”

Sam Milby will perform with Angeline Quinto the next day, Nov. 13, at Glorietta; on Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. at Abreeza with Yeng Constantino; and on Dec. 3, 7 p.m., at Ayala Center Cebu, also with Yeng. According to Sam, his repertoire will include “hero” songs like “Noypi” by Bamboo and “Narda” by Kamikazee.
