Gretchen Barretto recently revealed that taping for the upcoming teleserye Alta will start next week, beginning October 19. Other stars in the teleserye are Angelica Panganiban, KC Concepcion, Sam Milby, Luis Manzano, and Zanjoe Marudo.

Gretchen described her role as, “Isang anak mayaman but merong twist, so challenging ‘yon kasi hindi naman talaga ako anak mayaman sa totoong buhay.”

With her sophisticated stature, Gretchen was asked if she feels that her role in Alta will be effortless. “Walang madali na role na ibibigay sa akin,” she clarified. “Kasi I want to give my best as an actor.Kailangan walang hindi madali para ma-enjoy ng tao.Gusto ko ibang Gretchen ang makita nila and of course alam na alam nila na magaling si Angelica and of course, si KC. Nag-workshop kami, magaling si KC so I’m very proud and I believe we are ready to work.”

The actress refused to go into detail when asked how their workshops went. “Whatever happened in the workshop stays in the workshop,” she related. She said that she admires her fellow actresses who are eager to excel in their craft and she was able to know them on a deeper level. “I love [each of] them as a person and I’m excited to work with them.”

Gretchen Barretto on her so-called "intimidating presence": "Parati nilang sinasabi na nai-intimidate sila. Ewan ko ba kung bakit. Bakit ba? Malakas ba ang dating ko?"

On her Alta co-stars Angelica Panganiban and KC Concepcion: "What I can say is that she [KC] is hungry to be a good actress and that is a good thing. That is a good thing. And nakilala ko si KC and si Angelica through the workshop and I love them. I love them as a person. And I'm excited to work with them. Na bukod sa maganda sila. Bukod sa totoong tao sila... a, normal din silang tao. Hindi lang sila mga artista na puro palamuti, pero they have depth. At mero'n rin karanasan sa buhay."

Isang nakangiting Gretchen Barretto and dumating sa Baume and Mercier timepieces press conference kanina, a few minutes before 8 p.m. sa Fashion Walk ng Glorietta 5, Makati.

She was her usual glamorous self. "Blooming," ang comment sa kanya ng isang kasamahang entertainment writer.

Pagkatapos ng short program, nagpaunlak na agad si Gretchen ng interview.

Una nang tinanong sa kanya ang pagkabanggit ng kanyang pangalan sa isang very memorable at quotable line sa No Other Woman na paulit-ulit naririnig tuwing ipapakita ang trailer ng nasabing movie.

Ito ang dialogue ni Carmi Martin sa kanyang anak played by Cristine Reyes that goes: "I-pack up mo na si Lucy Torres. Ilabas mo na si Gretchen Barretto. Ako na ang bahala sa red stilletos mo!"

Meaning, si Greta (palayaw ni Gretchen) ang ginawang simbolo ng isang palabang babae.

"Naging inspirasyon ko din ang No Other Woman," sabi ng aktres.

"After watching that movie, No Other Woman, sabi ko, a, panahon na talaga na lumaban in many ways.

"Ang laban hindi naman puro tarayan at murahan [lang], but in many other ways."

Para kay Gretchen, compliment ang paggamit sa kanyang pangalan sa dialogue sa movie.

"Sabi nga nila naka-arrive ka na daw pag ginamit ang pangalan mo [sa dialogue sa movies].

"I said, 'Oh, thank you very much.'"

BEFRIENDING CRISTINE REYES. Natanong ang isa sa mga bida ng No Other Woman na si Cristine Reyes kung puwede raw ba niyang maging kaibigan si Gretchen Barretto.

Sagot daw ni Cristine ay mukhang di siya bagay mapalapit kay Greta dahil tingin niya ay "mataas" ito at "sosyal." Di raw gaya niya na "jologs."

"Ay naku, natutuwa ako sa mga jologs!" natatawa namang sabi ni Greta.

"Gusto ko rin matuto ng gano'n. Para maiba.

"At least I can learn from her."

ALTA. Sunod na kinumusta ang pagsisimula ng teleseryeng Alta na medyo matagal na ring napapabalita.

"Sa 19 [this October], magsu-shooting na ko," maagap na sabi ni Gretchen tungkol sa bago niyang proyekto sa ABS-CBN.

Excited ang mga tao na malaman kung ano ang magiging role niya sa Alta. Mahirap ba ang role niya or light lang?

"Walang madaling role na ibibigay sa 'kin because I want to give my best as an actor," sagot ni Gretchen.

"An as an actor, kailangan ang role mo hindi madali.

"Para ma-enjoy ng tao, gusto ko ibang Gretchen ang makita nila. All facets ang makita nila.

"And of course, alam natin na magaling na magaling si Angelica [Panganiban].

"And of course si KC [Concepcion]. Nag-workshop kami, magaling si KC. I'm very proud and I believe we're ready to work."

Ang Alta ay tungkol sa buhay ng mga nasa mataas na antas ng lipunan, or alta-sosyedad. Mayaman ba siya sa Alta, o mahirap?

"Alta ako. Isang anak-mayaman but mero'ng mga twists.

"So, challenging yun kasi di naman talaga ako anak-mayaman sa totoong buhay," pahayag ng aktres.

FIRST WITH THEM. Bukod kina Angelica at KC, makakasama niya rin sa Alta sina Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo, at Luis Manzano.

"I'm very excited first because I'm gonna be working with Sam," sambit niya.

"It's gonna be fresh. First time I'm gonna be working with Sam and with Luis and with Zanjoe.

"So, exciting."

KNOWING KC AND ANGELICA. Tanong ng isang kasamahan sa press kung ano ang naramdaman niya with KC during the workshop.

"A, whatever happens in the workshop, stays in the workshop. Workshopper ako ng isang taon, so I respect that.

"What I can say is that she [KC] is hungry to be a good actress and that is a good thing. That is a good thing.

"And nakilala ko si KC and si Angelica through the workshop and I love them. I love them as a person. And I'm excited to work with them.

"Na bukod sa maganda sila. Bukod sa totoong tao sila... a, normal din silang tao.

"Hindi lang sila mga artista na puro palamuti, pero they have depth.

"At mero'n rin karanasan sa buhay," saad ni Gretchen.

Pero ano ang masasabi niya na medyo naiilang daw sina Angelica at KC pag kasama nila si Greta?

"Parati nilang sinasabi na nai-intimidate sila. Ewan ko ba kung bakit.


"Bakit ba? Malakas ba ang dating ko?" balik-tanong ni Gretchen.

"We will have a great time, I promised them," naka-smile namang patuloy nito.

Nahirapan ba siya sa kanilang workshop?

"Alam mo as a workshopper, dapat walang mahirap na eksena.

"I would call it a challenging role. Pero, sa dami ng karanasan namin sa buhay, I'm sure... a, marami kaming magagamit na in store para sa Alta.

"So, you'll have something to look forward to."

OTHER PROJECTS? Kung may offer ba for her to do an indie movie, tatanggapin niya?

"That's really far out for now because of the schedules.

"And I cannot join Cinemalaya for the simple reason that Tony [Boy Cojuangco, her partner] heads Cinemalaya and it's unfair that I join it.

"But I would love to join," dire-diretsong sagot niya.

Plano ba niyang magkaroon uli ng record album?

"Far out pa ang album ngayon. I'm so into acting right now.

"So, ang una ko, Unexpected... Complicated. The next, Disappointed?" biro pa niya sabay tawa.

"Or, a... Fooled? Di ba?

"I don't know if my next album is Fooled!" tawa niya nang malakas sunod ang kanyang pasalamat sa amin at pagpapaalam.

Angelica Panganiban, Gretchen Barretto & KC Concepcion Star in ‘Muling Buksan ang Puso

Another groundbreaking teleserye is airing soon on ABS-CBN starring three of the most beautiful faces in showbiz. “Muling Buksan ang Puso”, an upcoming teleserye on ABS-CBN, will star Gretchen Barretto, Angelica Panganiban and KC Concepcion.


The said teleserye had a working title “Pinulot Ka Lang sa Lupa” to “Alta” until it was changed to “Muling Buksan ang Puso.”

According to reports, the leading men in the drama series are Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo, Luis Manzano and possibly Derek Ramsay, although it wasn’t finalized yet.

Directed by Ruel Naval (Magkaribal), “Muling Buksan ang Puso” is definitely one huge teleserye that will hit Philippine primetime soon!

Noong Lunes ay nag-workshop na sa pamamahala ni Direk Laurice Guillen sina Gretchen Barretto, Angelica Panganiban, at KC Concepcion para sa teleseryeng pagsasamahan nila, ang Muling Buksan Ang Puso.

Masaya ang tatlo sa kinalabasan ng kanilang workshop. “Exciting kasi marami kaming nalalaman sa isa’t isa. Step by step nabi-build na namin ‘yung magandang friendship. Mas nakilala mo sila deeper,” pahayag ni Angelica.

“Exhausting ‘yung workshop, ako medyo nahirapan. Good thing, nagkakakilanlan na kami. I think we are ready to work,” sagot naman ni Gretchen.

“This is it, nararamdaman namin na meron kaming project together na mang­yayari na ‘to finally kasi matagal na kaming naghihintay,” nakangiting dagdag naman ni KC.

Ang bali-balita ay tiyak daw na magpapatalbugan ang tatlong aktres pagdating sa pag-arte, damit, at mga alahas na kanilang gagamitin sa serye. “Kung patalbugan, malalaman n’yo na lang ‘yun. Pagdating namin sa set ‘di na si Angelica, si Angelica, siya na ‘yung character na pino-portray niya. Iba na rin ako, iba na rin si KC dun. Kung magkaaway kami sa teleserye ‘yun kami sa set,” sagot ni Gretchen.

“Masarap magtrabaho kapag nagtutulungan kayo at ‘di kayo maghihilahan pababa. Mas maaliw sila kung nakikita na sila sa lines at sa damit lang kami nagpapatalbugan. Kapag ‘di niya (Gretchen) lang ako pinahiram ng alahas, baka dun uminit ang ulo ko,” pabirong sagot naman ni Angelica.

“Kung mag-aaway, ako ang mediator dito,” nakangiting pagtatapos naman ni KC.

Makakasama ng tatlo sa bagong serye sina Zanjoe Marudo, Sam Milby, at Luis Manzano.

Gretchen Barretto revealed the that she spent the last six months not only for rest and vacation with her family but also to collect new designer clothes to wear in her upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye tentatively titledAlta. In last year’s series Magkaribal, Gretchen made a mark among viewers not only with her acting, but also with her extravagant outfits as she played supermodel-turned-designer Victoria. She shared, “Hindi madaling mag-ipon ng mga damit na gagamitin sa mga eksena for this teleserye. We want to give viewers outfits na different sa nakita nila sa Magkaribal para hindi magsawa ‘yung mga tao. We made sure na hindi siya pareho sa Magkaribal. Pinagaralan namin mabuti.”

The actress added that just like in Magkaribal, several big names in the fashion world will also take part in the overall production design of Alta. “Maraming kaming ii-introduce na bagong fashion designers not just from the Philippines but also from around the world, ha ha ha! Whatever we wore, pati mga bags, lahat ng nakita ninyo sa Magkaribal, I swear hindi niyo na makikita dito sa bagong teleserye.”

But she clarified that Alta will not be a “fashion serye” as many people are assuming. However, there is definitely the pressure of making this new drama a winner in the ratings just like Magkaribal. “Nakaka-pressure but I’m inspired to be a more intense actor. Excited ako kasi six months akong nakapagpahinga, nakapag-reflect. Six months kong na miss mag-taping, ang tagal ko nang hindi nagpupuyat. I’m hungry to work and give my best to the audience. It is a challenge for me, but at the same time it will also serve as an inspiration for me to be a better actor. Marami kaming magagawa for this teleserye.”

Gretchen talked about how she had a great time doing Magkaribal last year, that’s why in Alta, she asked the ABS-CBN bosses if she could still work with the same production team. “It’s the same team as with Magkaribal. The creative team, fashion team. Si Direk Nuel Naval pa rin. Ni-request ko talaga na sila pa rin ang makasama ko sa susunod na teleserye ko kasi nung last taping day ng Magkaribal iyak ako nang iyak. ‘Yung cast lang ang hindi ko makakasama uli. But I’m happy to be working with KC (Concepcion) and Angelica (Panganiban).” Also in the cast are Luis Manzano, Zanjoe Marudo, and Sam Milby.

She further shared that in her numerous trips abroad, Filipinos would often fondly call her Victoria. Now withAlta, Gretchen said she is excited about being associated with a new character. Will this new role be worthy of an award? “Bonus na lang sa akin ang award. Tao na ang magbibigay nun. Ang gusto ko lang is mag-ratekami, masaya ang audience and our bosses. Kuntento na ako kapag ganun,” she explained.

Gretchen Barretto recently signed a new contract with ABS-CBN to formalize her new project with the Kapamilya network: a new primetime teleserye tentatively titled Alta. Following the contract signing, Gretchen told reporters that she took advantage of the last six months after her last teleserye Magkaribalwrapped up to get some rest and spend time with her family. “After a year nandito na uli ako. Gretchen is back! Ha ha ha! After Magkaribal, gagawa na uli ako ng teleserye and excited na ako. Nagkapagpahinga ako. I exercised. I bonded with my family, Tony (Boy Cojuangco, her partner) and Dominique (their daughter). Now I’m back and ready to face the camera.”

Before playing a “fashion queen” in Magkaribal, Gretchen scoured various high class boutiques here and abroad in search of eye-catching clothes to wear on the show. This time around, she revealed that shopping also became one of her preparation for her new teleserye role. “Six months na kaming lahat nagpe-prepare. Six months na akong nagiipon ng mga damitfor this teleserye, ha ha ha! I’ve been exercising. Magkaka-workshop na rin kami anytime this week. Tuloy tuloy na ang trabaho naming lahat. I don’t know if I can tell say what the title is. Basta ang working title niya is Alta pero hindi pa yun talaga ang title.”

Unlike Magkaribal, Alta will not deal with the fashion world, but more on the lives of people in the high society. The cast will also include Angelica Panganiban, KC Concepcion, Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo, and Luis Manzano. Gretchen spoke up about her team up with KC and Angelica to top-bill Alta. “More intense acting dito. Siyempre iba na ang cast. Imagine magkakasama kami nina Angelica and KC. Tatlo kaming babae na matatapang at malalakas ang mga loob. I guess labanan ng acting. Makikita mo talaga dito as actors what we all can give to our public. We love our careers.”

The actress couldn’t hide her excitement over the scheduled gathering of the entire lead cast for the grand story conference and acting workshop. “Magkikita kami for a story conference, our last and biggest story conference. We will also have our acting workshop together. Magkikita na kami. Oh no! I’m excited na! In two weeks start na kaming mag-taping.”

At the same time, though, Gretchen admitted that she also feels a bit apprehensive about meeting the cast, particularly the girls Angelica and KC, the same thing she felt last year when work on Magkaribal was about to start. “When I started Magkaribal I had apprehensions about meeting the other actors and working with them. I’m in that state again. Iniisip ko ngayon, ‘Magkakasundo ba kami?’”

But the actress said that is optimistic that, like the great time she had with the Magkaribal cast, she will also forge new friendships in Alta. Gretchen has also put behind her the rift that happened between her and Angelica. “This is our choice. My choice is for us to fall in love with our work para makita ng audience na we are here to work and not to fight. We are here to give our best and we that to our bosses. After all they’re paying us good money, ha ha ha!”

Gretchen Barretto graced the 9th Gawad Tanglaw Awards last March 17 to pick up trophies for two TV projects she did last year. Her top-rating teleserye Magkaribal won as Best Drama Series, while her portrayal in the ‘Larawan’ episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya earned her the Best Actress in a Single Performance nod. Gretchen told reporters during the Gawad Tanglaw Awards, “Nagpapasalamat ako kayDirek Nuel (Naval, her director in Magkaribal and the MMK episode) for always being patient with me, for always giving his best as my director. Also to the creative team, sa ABS-CBN. Salamat sa magagandang proyektong ibinibigay niyo sa akin.”

Gretchen is set to make a comeback on primetime TV with a new teleserye titled Alta wherein she will co star with Angelica Panganiban, KC Concepcion, Zanjoe Marudo, and Sam Milby. Gretchen shared thatAlta is set to begin taping after the Holy Week and is tentatively scheduled to air by June. According to her, a workshop is scheduled for all the stars of theteleserye, and as early as now, Gretchen is very much excited to befriending her co stars.

“Hindi pa kami nakakapag bonding kasi busy kami sa kanya-kanya naming buhay. But hopefully very soon,kapag nag start na kaming mag workshop tuloy tuloy na kaming magkakasama. I’m looking forward to working with them. There are so many thing I want to know about them. Parang ang nangyari noon sa Magkaribal. Sa simula nai intimidate pa kami sa isa’t isa pero later on nung naging close na lahat, talagang super close lahat.I’m looking forward to that.”

Knowing that she is about to live a busy life again very soon, Gretchen revealed that rest and relaxation she gets at the moment is very precious. She also shared her current work out plan to stay in shape for her TV roles. “Panay ang exercise ko. I do pilates. I also run and I do TRX. To get ready for Alta. Kaya fit ako ngayon, ha ha ha!”

Aside from Alta, Gretchen said that ABS-CBN has granted her request to do another MMK episode, still withDirek Nuel. She wasn’t shy to admit that she loves taking home trophies for an MMK episode. “Humihingi rin ako ng isa pang MMK episode this year, of course with Direk Nuel again. Para naman next year meron kami ulit panglaban sa awards. Naghahanap ng materyal si Direk Nuel. Hopefully bago mag air ang Alta may bagong MMK akong maihahatid sa lahat.” Gretchen won a back-to-back trophies as Best Actress in a Single Performance from the PMPC Star Awards in 2009 and 2010, both for MMK.
