MANILA, Philippines – Director Cathy Garcia-Molina pushed KC Concepcion beyond her limit in "Forever and a Day" and did not accord her special treatment.
“I told her I would never treat her as the daughter of the Megastar,” Cathy was quoted by Push to have told KC at the onset of shooting the film.
Perhaps just like any other director, Cathy demands utmost professionalism from every actor she works with – something that KC was not exempted from.
“Grabe pinagdaanan niya sa akin dito, lahat ng pride niya tinapakan ko. Walang natira sa batang ito sa akin. And wala akong narinig. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Whatever it takes, mapalabas ko lang kung anong meron ka, gagawin ko’ and she agreed. Because she agreed, she had to suffer. And I hope makita niyo 'yung result sa pelikula because I am very happy and I respected her more than ever in this film,” she shared.
“Si KC nga napaiyak ko nung minsan eh. As in nasigawan ko. Sigaw talaga. Eh ang daming tao. Narinig ng mga tao. Nung rehearsal na naginginig 'yung boses niya, sabi ko, naku napahiya ko 'yung bata,” Cathy admitted.
Despite putting KC under fire while they were filming, Cathy disclosed how working with the former is something that she has long wanted.
“I hoped to work with her, I really did, I really hoped. And it took me many years pa bago ko makatrabaho si KC and the expectations were met. In fact, exceeded my expectations,” Cathy revealed.
Although the “Forever and a Day” director relayed her excitement to have finally worked with Sharon Cuneta’s eldest daughter, it became much of a test for her to be working with the young actress for the first time. Not to mention with a new love team in the person of KC’s friend, actor Sam Milby.
"Naging problem ko po talaga na magkaibigan sila. Even Sam and KC were telling me... sobra silang magkaibigan so they can't look at each other as lovers,” Cathy told PEP in their June 12 report.
"It was a problem, yes, nahirapan ako. But I always believe po na hindi naman sila 'yung nai-in-love onscreen but rather 'yung character nila," she explained further.
"So, for as long as they become the character, it is possible for them to fall in love. Ganoon lang po talaga dahil kung aasahan ko po ang mga personal nilang buhay, baka po wala akong mapala.”
"Ako po'y kumakapit na lang sa characterization nila and [worked] on making them them fall in love as Raffy and Eugene," she said.
Cathy recounted to Push on a May 14 about the two’s on-screen chemistry.
“Ayaw ko talagang nagsasalita about sa mga ganyan kasi you know that I’ve been working with many tandems. Mga existing and mga bagong tina-try na tandem. Para sa akin, ginagawa yan at nangyayari sa set. Kumbaga, organic siya. It doesn’t happen na ganun na lang, one day nagising sila may chemistry na sila. Yes it’s there kasi friends sila and I’m so thankful and happy talaga na nagkataong magkaibigan itong dalawang ito. But more than that, bago kasi sila sa akin,” she said.
In the same report, she shared how this film made her discover a different side of KC.
“I am so thankful to know and see the real her, the real KC. Sobra siyang payak, so simple. Minahal ko si KC sa pelikulang ito. I never knew meron siya ganung loob,” Cathy shared.
