MANILA, Philippines -- An independent film that chronicles the historical Bataan Death March is unlikely to be released in local theaters, but actor Sam Milby hopes it will be screened in international film festivals.

Sam Milby takes on the "deglamorized" role of an American soldier in "Death March."

"I heard na hindi lalabas dito sa Pilipinas. They were going to release it in the MMFF (38th Metro Manila Film Festival), but I don't think it's going to happen," Milby told ABS-CBN News at the sidelines of the "Metrowear: Fantasy" fashion show held Sunday night at the EDSA Shangri-La Manila.

"So I think it's going to be for international film festivals. Wala pang balita kung kailan lalabas dito," the 30-year-old actor added.

Directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr., "Death March" was among the films vying for a slot at this year's MMFF. The historical drama, however, failed to make the cut, along with other independent films such as Brillante Mendoza's "Thy Womb," which was later accepted as a last-minute replacement.

Also starring actors Zanjoe Marudo, Ejay Falcon, and Carlo Aquino, "Death March" tells the story of the forcible transfer of 76,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war by the Japanese Army in 1942.
