THE QUEEN IS BACK – For years, Claudine Barretto and
Judy Ann Santos were the teleserye queens of ABS-CBN. Along the way,
other loves and interests and priorities intervened. Claud and Judai
gave way to younger Kapamilya actresses. The likes of Erich Gonzales,
Jessy Mendiola, Kim Chiu, Maja Salvador, and Empress Schuck.
Claud is hibernating these day. But Judai is back on ABS-CBN, topbilling
“Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala,” with KC Concepcion and Sam Milby. The soap is
part of ABS-CBN’s 60th year.
While in soaps past Judai was usually meek and mild — to a fault — a
new kind of role emerges in “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala,” one who fights for
her rights, a strong woman who faces all odds in search of her child.
It’s all about women empowerment, of which Judai is a strong believer.
CONTRAVIDA ROLES – Sam Milby and KC Concepcion are the contravidas in the soap, faithless and cruel husband and the other woman.
Being daring, in a manner of speaking, Sam didn’t have second
thoughts about doing a mean role. He’s done indies, where his roles are
out of the box. His latest indie is Adolf Alix’s “Death March,” which
brought him to Cannes.
It was KC who was reluctant to play the other woman, with her Ate Judai yet as the wife.
But then Judai herself called KC about the role, “Contravida ka, tanggapin mo.”
Joining Judai, Sam, and KC in the soap are Coney Reyes, Tirso Cruz
III, John Estrada, Mylene Dizon, Matet de Leon, Empress Schuck, Bryan
Termulo, Susan Africa, and Joseph Marco. Directed by Jerry Sineneng and
Tots Sanchez-Mariscal.
“Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” opens June 17 primetime.
