Sam Milby talks about the challenges of playing a merman in ‘Dyesebel’

With his role as the merman Liro in Dyesebel, Sam Milby has admitted that speaking in pure Filipino would prove to be more difficult for him than donning the heavy monofin prosthetic as his costume.
This revelation was made by the Dyesebel star exclusively to Push.com.ph during the recently-concluded Kapamilya Trade Event. “Siyempre kasi wala namang sireno na nag-iingles. ‘Yun siguro ang pinaka-challenge sa akin more than yung pagsi-swimming,” he explained.
What were his preparations for the role? “‘Yung mga preparations ko siyempre merman ako dito so nag-training para maging merman. Monofin tapos ‘yung susuutin ko talaga na buntot, nag-practice rin kami for that. It was definitely difficult lalo na ‘yung actual na suot ng buntot. Hindi nakikita sa screen but it’s a bit heavy and hard to control,” he said.
But Sam reiterated that swimming with fins is something that he could eventually get used to and he sees it as a “fun experience.”
The Filipino-American singer is currently taking Tagalog lessons to hone his language skills. “Siguro naman kapag nag-start na ‘yung taping namin, I plan to have a tutor doon sa set para tutulungan niya ako,” he added...
