Sam Milby and Paulo Avelino

MANILA, Philippines – Playing brothers and rivals fighting for the heart of Angeline Quinto’s character in the upcoming Kapamilya series “Kahit Konting Pagtingin” have inevitably put Paulo Avelino and Sam Milby in a face-off of sorts.

The two may be pitted against each other with comparisons after another, but even before this premature rivalry could take on a life of its own, Paulo has already dispelled the possibility by telling ABS-CBNNews.com in a recent interview, “…karangalan na ikumpra ako kay Sam Milby.” In fact, he noted that he isn’t even competing with the latter.

Paulo even went as far as to say, “Tanggap ko naman na mas gwapo at mas maganda ang katawan ni Sam sa akin.”

We’ve yet to hear Sam’s side on the matter as of this writing, but we’re sure he’ll give Paulo the praises he is due. But in the spirit of fun, Bulletin Entertainment looked into some of the actors’ similarities and differences – good looks and physical built notwithstanding – and starred them in our own smack down.

No worries, though; we absolutely mean no harm here.

Homegrown Talents

While both actors got their respective starts via reality shows – with Sam coming from the first-ever edition of ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Big Brother” and Paulo in the fourth season of GMA-7’s talent search “StarStruck” – the former got a head start to an active career through TV commercials before the latter stepped into the scene in 2006. Both actors failed to snag the top prize in their respective competitions, but nevertheless went on to gain steady popularity.

Since his “PBB” stint in 2005, Sam has stayed put in one network, only having a brief hiatus early last year to chase his “American dream”; on the other hand, Paulo has jumped ship from GMA-7 to its rival ABS-CBN in August 2011.

Actor-Musicians

Aside from being an actor, Sam has also managed to identify himself as a musician Adding to a discography that comprises six albums – one of which is a collaboration with actress-singer-host Toni Gonzaga – he has also participated in a couple of compilation and soundtrack albums.

On the other hand, Paulo recently made his foray into the music scene when he launched his self-titled debut album last year.

Crossing Over

Although both identified as mainstream actors, both Sam and Paulo have already dabbled in acting for independent films. Sam so far has starred in two releases, “Cul de Sac” and “Third World Happy.” Meanwhile, Paulo has only appeared in Alvin Yapan’s “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa.” Despite being relatively new to the field compared to Sam, Paulo bested him in this aspect as he bagged two acting awards – 2012 Gawad Urian’s Best Actor and 2012 Pasado Awards’ Best Supporting Actor – for his role in his indie debut.

Sam nevertheless won the 2007 Star Awards for Movies’ nod for New Movie Actor of the Year, although it had been for the mainstream flick, “You are the One.”

Presently, Sam is set to star in the Adolf Alix Jr.-helmed "Death March," as Paulo is set to star in another film by Alvin Yapan for the upcoming Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
