MANILA, Philippines -- Actress Judy Ann Santos gave a piece of her mind on the acting career of her newest "teleserye" leading man, Sam Milby.
Santos, who stars with Milby in ABS-CBN's upcoming drama series "Against All Odds," said it may be time for the heartthrob actor to graduate from portraying "cute" roles on TV and film.
The "Pinoy Big Brother" alumnus was also commended by Santos for now speaking in Tagalog fluently.
Born in Ohio in the United States, Milby's early years in showbiz saw him mostly limited to speaking in English, his first language, despite being cast in a lead role.
Now, with years of experience as an actor, Milby can now essay a "kontrabida" role, according to Santos.
"With Sam naman kasi, pwede siyang maging bida, pwede siyang maging kontrabida. Oras naman na para kay Sam para grumaduate sa mga cute films, kasi mature na siya eh," Santos told reporters on Tuesday.
"At may arte siyang talaga, may arte siyang taglay, kailangan lang i-push nang husto, and he really listens," Santos said.
Coach Judai?
Santos clarified, however, that she does not openly give acting advice to her co-stars.
"Never naman akong nag-coach sa mga tao. Not until they ask me for it," she said.
"Not until they come up to me, and ask me kung tama ba 'yung ginagawa nila, kung okay ba, kung ano pa 'yung pwede nilang gawin, that's the only time I give a piece of my mind," she added.
Aside from Milby, who describes working with Santos as a "highlight" of his career, "Against All Odds" also stars KC Concepcion, Tirso Cruz III, Coney Reyes and John Estrada.
"Against All Odds" is expected for a primetime telecast later this year.
