It’s all systems go for the biggest annual gathering of ABS-CBN's artists as this year’s Star Magic Ball promises to shimmer in black and white and champagne color motifs on Sept. 7.
While local celebs are brimming with excitement about what to wear, eyes will be on the “couples” that would be attending the ball together; and the “singles” that will grace the festivity.
Upcoming "Maria Mercedes" star Jessy Mendiola is eyeing a “classy but sexy look,” as she is expected to arrive as the date of Sam Milby, who has earlier admitted to courting the young actress.
Recently single Melissa Ricks might fly solo but she isn’t any less thrilled to attend. She told "Showbiz Inside Report" in an interview: “I’m sure everybody in Star Magic is excited kasi every year iba ‘yung gown, every year iba ‘yung partner, iba 'yung experience, iba ‘yung theme.”..

Sam Milby: “If I look at myself back, when I was 21 or 22, I’m completely different than I am now. I’m growing up so much and I feel like I have so much more growing up that I still have to do within the next 5 years.”

Filipino-American heartthrob Sam Milby once again graces the cover of Men’s Health in its September issue.
During his third cover shoot for the magazine at Ultimate Fitness Gym, Metrowalk last July 18, he sat with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) to share how he got his buff bod back in shape and how he’s been doing with his career and love life.
“It’s my third time, so it’s nothing new but at the same time… grabe yung privilege to be on the cover of Men’s Health," the Kapamilya actor said.
“It’s something not everyone gets to do. It means that you are [in] a good lifestyle. You’re able to stay fit and stay healthy.”
When asked about how he has been preparing for the shoot and getting his body toned, Sam replied, “I wish I can lie and say I prepared, but I didn’t. I was much more prepared siguro last time and mas lalo the time before.
“And it seems like, as I’m getting older, mas nagiging lazy ako. That’s why I’m more strict on my diet now because I don’t go to the gym as much, I don’t work out as much.
“What I normally do now, I just started again for the last three weeks. I’ll just do a few push-ups and sit-ups bago maligo in the morning and that’s it. And then diet.”
FIGHT TO BE FIT. On every cover shoot for the magazine, Sam Milby has shown different sides of his lifestyle and enthusiasm for physically-demanding sports. He shared his new fascination for a more intense sport–Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
“I think the first issue, mas [may] pagka-lifestyle yung ginawa namin. The second one was about my favorite sport, motocross. And this one is, obviously, all about MMA. So, iba-iba lagi.”
His love for sports goes way back—from figure skating during his childhood to wrestling, motocross, karate and other physical activities.
“Ako I like those, I’ve always been into the physical sports where, yung gano'n, like motocross, you really have to be physical and may adrenaline.
“I did wrestling in high school, I did karate in college and I’ve done MMA. I’ve done Muay Thai at Gold’s Gym. And I kinda stopped for a bit but now I’m being here, parang nakaka-miss eh.

The early-primetime soap “Kahit Konting Pagtingin,” which co-starred Angeline Quinto and Paulo Avelino, was Sam’s big opener this year. Tagged as the ultimate kilig-serye, the soap’s feel-good storyline and Sam’s brilliant performance earned heartfelt reception from viewers.
Next came his very sullen role as Eros on “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala,” alongside KC Concepcion and the Teleserye Queen Judy Ann Santos. Here, fans and even his co-stars agree that Sam’s performance was consistently effective, especially in the latter part of the series during which Eros became mentally deranged. The finale episode finished strong at 32.5% audience share and hit one million views on iWanTV.
With the plaudits and the numbers to back it up, Sam’s “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” journey moved him closer to the caliber of his seniors
Movie Comeback
Sam is gearing for his big screen comeback in two big films: Star Cinema-Viva Films’ “The Gifted” with Cristine Reyes and Anne Curtis, which he started shooting just two days after the airing of his last soap; and the Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Kimmy Dora 3: Ang Kyemeng Prequel” under Spring Films co-starring Eugene Domingo which starts grinding in October.
Both films are directed by Chris Martinez who recommended Sam for the projects. “Kimmy Dora 3” co-producer, the director Joyce Bernal, handpicked the actor for the second film... "

This September, Sam Milby is gracing the Men’s Health cover for the third time. “It’s nothing new,” he humbly says, “but at the same time, it is still a privilege. It’s a huge privilege. It’s not something that everyone gets to do.”

Sam Milby an 'observant' suitor, says Jessy

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Jessy Mendiola, heartthrob Sam Milby’s new object of affection, said that her suitor knows just what to do to get her attention.
“He’s very consistent and attentive. He’s observant,” she told ABS-CBN’s Showbiz Inside Report. “Kumbaga, if you need something or anything, he knows.”
Milby said in an interview with "The Buzz" last week that he is courting Mendiola. “Nililigawan ko si Jessy. She’s aware. I did let her know my intentions, yes. I like her, she’s beautiful. I like her simplicity. Hindi siya maarte,” he said.
While Mendiola said that she was surprised that Milby said on TV that he is courting her, she thought his admission was “a nice thing to do.”
“Any girl would be flattered, and I think it’s a nice thing to do, na he said it on TV,” she said. “Actually hindi ko alam na magsasalita siya.”
She said that it is Milby’s choice if he wants to tell people or television viewers that he trying to win her affection. “Wala rin naman masama.”
Mendiola had earlier said that she does not see anything wrong with Milby trying to get to know her better.
"Single ako at single siya so bakit naman hindi. Pero we go out lang naman and hang. Nothing super serious since alam niya priority ko ang career ko.”
"He’s a very sweet and nice guy so I don’t want to close any doors naman and why not let him get the chance na makilala ako and ganoon din ako sa kanya,” she said.
