Director Cathy Garcia-Molina is excited about her latest film, Star Cinema’s 18th anniversary offeringForever and a Day, which is set to hit theaters on June 15. The film tells the story about the beauty of life and love.Forever and a Day is also the first big screen team-up of Sam Milby and KC Concepcion, who are also very good friends in real life. Direk Cathy admitted she didn’t expect to be working with the two actors in one project. “Hindi ko naisip na sila’y magsasama ever. I was supposed to do a project with KC with another leading man and then Sam with another leading lady.Nagulat ako na sila na yung partner. Pinatawag ako, and then I got to meet with them. And then I saw the friendship that they had. Makulit talaga yung dalawang yan. Kaya naisip ko na puwede, puwede talaga,” she said during the Forever and a Day presscon held last June 10 at the ABS-CBN compound.
In the movie, Sam plays the role of Eugene Servero, an adventurous and competitive man who is always up for any challenge while KC plays Raffy Salvador, a woman who has yet to conquer her many fears in life. DirekCathy admitted that it was actually harder for her to direct Sam and KC because the two were already so familiar with each other. “Actually naging problem ko talaga na magkaibigan sila. Even Sam was telling me and KC that he was having problems kasi sobra silang magkaibigan and they could not look at each other as if they could be lovers. It was a problem. Yes, nahirapan ako pero I always tell them and I’ve always believed na hindi naman sila na-i-in love onscreen, but rather as actors. As long as they become their characters, it is not impossible to fall in love. Sam may not fall in love with KC, but Eugene can fall in love with Raffy. And so can Raffy fall in love with Eugene. So ganun lang kasi kung aasahan ko lang yung personal nila na buhay, baka wala akong mapala. So ako’y kumakapit sa characterization nila, to make them live it and make their characters fall in love,” she explained.
Just like the magic she wove to make the John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo tandem work in blockbusters like A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life, Direk Cathy said it is not a problem for her even if her two lead stars are not an item in real life. “Star Cinema never banks on the relationship. Hindi naman tayo yung tipong nagki-create ng kunwari nagkakagustuhan.”
