"Sa first parts ng shooting namin, nahirapan talaga kami. You would think being friends would make it easier, pero ako, mas mahirap," Sam told Yahoo! OMG Philippines at the cast party after the premiere night of the movie, where he stars with KC Concepcion.
Now being romantically linked to KC, Sam said in interviews that he and KC are just friends since they have known each other for three years, even before Piolo came into the picture.
"Mas mahirap kasi. First off, friends kami, and it's work. We have to act like we're in love and it's work," Sam added. Their closeness and ease with each other distracted them from focusing on their work in the first part of their shoot.
"Kami, we have lots of time na we're just talking on the set and nag-Tatagalog si Direk. And we were not too focused," Sam added.
Thus, they made an effort to go their own separate ways on the set so they can concentrate on their characters as lovers. "Medyo hiwalay rin kami eh, para talagang trabaho at hindi kami yung chumichika," Sam shared.
Sam has worked on a movie with a lot of female stars such as Toni Gonzaga, Bea Alonzo and Anne Curtis.
But he finds it easier to work with a female co-star he doesn't know personally. "I find it easier kung hindi (mo) masyado kilala yung tao. There's always kind of mystery, a lot of work to do. It's really professional," Sam explained.
Sam plays Eugene, an arrogant go-getter who is always up for challenges while KC is Raffy, a simple girl who wants to live life to the fullest.
Many say that Sam has been really improving his acting, having gotten good reviews for his role in the indie film, 'Third World Happy.'
His performance in 'Forever and a Day' is no different. It shows the actor in him, not just the boy-next-door type we used to see.
"I'm also happy na when the movie is over, may mga lumalapit sa akin na, 'pinaiyak mo ko ha.' So, that means you're being effective," Sam said .
Sam also attributes his great performance to his movie director, Cathy Garcia Molina. "Sa acting ko na to, I really owe a lot to Direk Cathy," Sam told the press.
"Forever and a Day" is his fourth movie with the director. "Alam nya paano imo-motivate kung alam nya lahat ng bagay tungkol sa'yo. She knew how to bring it out in me," Sam added.
In an interview with "The Buzz" last Sunday, June 12, the director and KC said Sam is always tense whenever he does movies. But Sam feels differently now.
"Every movie, you're your own worst critic, of course. But for me, happy ako (with the movie). It's a beautiful story," Sam said.
