KC Concepcion, Out of Her Comfort Zone

Who doesn’t know KC? Beautiful, intelligent, talented, mega daughter. She’s probably one of the most exciting personalities that the Philippine entertainment industry has ever seen. But who really does know KC? Or what else can she do outside the shadows of her celebrity lineage?

I’ve seen some of her performances on TV and watched her movies. Ganun ko lang s’ya kilala. So nung first time ko s’ya makatrabaho, I’ve laid down my cards on her. Sabi ko sa kanya, o KC pasensyahan tayo dito. I’ll do everything para mailabas kung anong kayang ilabas ng isang KC Concepcion.” Thus said by “Forever and a Day” director, the Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina. “But surprisingly I saw that KC really loves the craft. Nakita ko yun sa kanya. Kahit anong pagalit ko d’yan, kahit anong pahiya ang gawin ko, wala kang makikita sa kanyang rebellion. She’s like a sponge na she takes whatever she can. In fairness, nakita ko na’to sa lahat ng movies n’ya, sabi ko si KC, meron ‘to eh, meron ‘to talaga. That’s why gusto ko rin s’ya makatrabaho. And hindi n’ya ‘ko binigo. Hindi ako nadisappoint kay KC. In fact, I was surprised because I got more than what I expected. Magaling s’ya. Matalino s’ya. She improves everytime I correct her. KC is a revelation here. KC is an actress.” Direk Cathy proudly says.

“First time ko with Direk Cathy. Natakot ako nu’ng una syempre kasi now ko lang s’ya makikilala at makakausap talaga pero nakatulong ‘yung sobrang malaki ‘yung tiwala talaga n’ya sa’kin, sa amin, sa istorya, sa kuwento. So she only asked me for one thing and that was to trust her. So that’s something na talagang nagbigay sa’kin ng lakas ng loob para gawin ‘to.” KC narrates. She furthered, “As Raffy, ako ‘yung isang babae na madaming pinagdadaanan. Marami ring hindi pa nasusubukan sa buhay na gusto na n’yang gawin ngayon para patunayan sa sarili n’ya na kaya n’ya. Madaming gustong patunayan hindi sa ibang tao kundi sa sarili n’ya.” Playing the role of Raffy, KC had no make-up and was always dressed-down. The role actually required her to go out of her comfort zone physically, departing from her glammed-up screen roles of the past. More so, it made her and her character face their fears. As Direk Cathy adds, “Si KC adventurous sa tutoong buhay pero may fear of heights! May isang eksena sa mataas na Diyos ko Lord hirap na hirap akong kunan! Di pa s’ya dapat umiyak sa eksena, iyak na nan g iyak. Sabi ko ba’t ka umiiyak?! Kasi nga takot na takot na pala talaga s’ya! Sabi ko nga as the character Raffy conquers fear of heights, KC’s also conquering it. After that nga sabi n’ya Direk gumagaling na ‘ko. Tapos may isa pa, sa isang eksena parang lulunudin s’ya sa river, eh swimmer naman si KC kaya di ako ganun katakot. Pero nung take na, ina-allow n’ya ‘yung tubig na ilubog s’ya! Ako ‘yung natakot kasi akala ko malulunod talaga s’ya! Tatlong takes yun na nakakainom s’ya ng tubig but at the end of it wala kang maririning na reklamo sa kanya. I admire her professionalism!”

Indeed, KC has never done a role like this before. “Ive never done something like this. Si Raffy, malalim, meron s’yang sikretong tinatago na gusto n’ya munang iwan, takasan. She’s making the most of her life. Bawa’t araw na lumilipas talagang ninanamnam n’ya. Huwag balewalain ang maliliit na bagay . Sanakahit papano meron akong nadadala kay Raffy na character ko dito na di pa nakikita dati.“

A new KC? The KC that we all don’t know? “Forever and a Day” might just proves so. The beautiful, intelligent, talented mega daughter has finally gone out of her comfort zone and how.
