" Filipino filmmakers conquer Cannes "

Adolfo Alix Jr., Sam Milby and your columnist at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
For the first time in the history of Philippine cinema, four Filipino films and one film project in development made it to the Festival de Cannes, the biggest film festival in the world.

Lav Diaz’s “NORTE Hanggananng Kasaysayan” and Adolfo Alix Jr.’s “Death March” were selected for the Un Certain Regard competition. Lino Brocka’s “Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag” was one of the restored films screened at the Cannes Classic section. Erik Matti’s “On the Job” premiered at the Director’s Fortnight while Joanna Arong’s “Sigbin Chronicles” was the only project in development chosen from Asia for the La Fabrique des Cinemas du Monde.
