Sam gives up big projects, takes big risks in the U.S.

Actor and singer Sam Milby has taken the next big step in his career. He is leaving the Philippines in February 2012 to pursue hisHollywood dreams.
Even if he hasn’t received a guaranteed offer in La La Land, Sam has dropped out of a major role in ABS-CBN’s forthcoming new TV drama, “Alta,” which will star Angelica Panganiban, Gretchen Barretto, KC Concepcion, Luis Manzano and Zanjoe Marudo. His role has been taken over by Diether Ocampo.
He has also given up a new movie with Bea Alonzo, which will now be shot with Derek Ramsey.
“It’s a big risk on my part. But I feel so good and positive about it. I’m really up to the challenge. Alam ko naman na napakahirap pumasok sa Hollywood,” Sam told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! and some members of the press during Star Magic’s “A Night to Give Back” benefit concert last Sunday, November 20.
No guarantees
Last October, Sam returned to the U.S. after a series of auditions to meet again with casting directors and network executives. While the results of his auditions appear positive, Sam denied he has been cast in any project.
His move to the U.S. next year, where he will stay for three months beginning in February, will build on the momentum on his early auditions. He hopes to go on more try-outs in the hopes of jump-starting a Hollywood career.
Even without a firm offer, Sam says he has been asked to confirm rumors he has landed projects.
“People are like, ‘Anong show mo? “Vampire Diaries?”’ Ayaw ko namang isipin ng mga tao na may work na ako doon. I’d like to put it this way, nakilala ko yung mga casting directors, ang gagawin ko actually is to audition. But, kilala ko na yung mga casting directors and other network executives. Nothing’s guaranteed,” he added.
Seizing opportunities
“I was really looking forward to ‘Alta,’” he said of the series he opted out of. “That is a really good project and power cast talaga. But, with everything looking promising, I don’t wanna pass up the chance talaga, the opportunities. It’s a big risk and I gave up a teleserye. But, I’m really, really positive and excited about this,” Sam said.
Sam has never kept his Hollywood ambitions a secret. “It is my dream. I believe that if I really work hard and if I push myself, I can. I think anybody who put their mind and heart into it, they can achieve it. But then Hollywood is not always like that naman. There are some na napakagaling naman but never get the chance. Suwerte ako kasi I’ve just started and I know a lot of people already. Sana yun ang start,” Sam said.
As Sam will be leaving local showbiz for three months, does he fear of losing his popularity in the country?
“Hindi naman sa ganu’n. I’ll be back naman. Then I’ll have work when I get back, I’m planning to do a teleserye next year. I’m excited for that. But I’m also very excited for February,” Sam said.

Sam Milby revealed that he will be leaving for the United States in February 2012 and will stay there for three months to pursue a Hollywood career. Although he has not yet been signed up for any Hollywood project, the actor-singer is pretty optimistic about his plans. “It’s my first time, I haven’t been there yet but I’m having high hopes and you know, with the positive feedback from people that I already met, I’m being very positive so sana naman it will go [well],” he admitted during the Star Magic Benefit Concert held at Zirkoh Comedy Bar last November 20.
Sam denied claims that he has been cast in a Hollywood show. Sam explained, “I know a lot of people are thinking din, ‘Ay ano’g show mo, kasali ka sa Vampire Diaries ganun-ganun.’ Hindi naman. Ayoko namang isipin ng mga tao na may work na [ako]. hindi nga eh, it’s just parang nakilala ko na angcast and directors [and] ‘yun ang importante… Ang gagawin ko actually is auditions. ‘Yun ang mga gagawin ko For three months, but there’s no guaranteed work.”
He added that he has met people from US TV networks that could help him with his Hollywood dream, but stressed that there is no assurance yet if he could get a part. Nevertheless, he is keeping his fingers crossed that something good will come out of it. “It’s a very good gamble and I feel positive about it. I’m really up to the challenge. Initially, Sam intended to do Alta so he could leave something to his followers while he was gone, but the show’s production kept being pushed back. Sa magarbong tribute gala, namalas ang pambihirang likha ng kilalang fashion designer na si Pitoy Moreno.
Mula sa barong at Filipiniana, mamalas ang husay ni Pitoy na higit limang dekada nang tinataguyod ang Philippine fashion.
Rumampa ang mga taga-showbiz gaya nina Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby, Karylle at iba pa.
May special music performances naman sina Gary Valenciano at Rico Blanco habang rumarampa sina Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up Venus Raj at 2011 Miss Universe 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup.
Emosyonal naman si Pitoy sa tinanggap na pagpupugay.
“Siya talaga ang nag-hone sa akin bilang true Filipina model,” sabi ni Bianca Manalo.
“Naiyak nga ako doon sa very end when he took his walk sa runway. Naniniwala ako na nagsimula ito sa success niya,” sabi ni Karylle.
Usap-usapan naman ang sunud-sunod na pagkukrus ng landas nina Piolo at host ng gala na si KC Concepcion.
Iwas ang dalawa na sagutin nang diretso ang isyu ng hiwalayan pero malaman ang mensahe ni KC sa nakaraang “Cam Soar With Da Best” event ng Kapamilya stars.
“Just because you love someone, it doesn't mean there won't come a time when you have to let go for that person's happiness and maybe for your own. And also, to love also means sometimes, to let go,” sabi ni KC.
Pero may kinalaman kaya ito sa kanyang buhay-pagibig?
“I’ll just talk when I’m ready na lang po. Ayoko pong makasakit ng tao,” sabi ni KC.

Sam Milby takes a break from PH showbiz to try Hollywood
Kapamilya star Sam Milby is flying to New York early next year to pursue his dream of penetrating Hollywood. According to the matinee idol, he auditioned for a role in a TV series produced by one of the biggest American networks. Everything went well and he got the job! He needs to be in New York in February and stay there for a minimum of three months. Unfortunately, Sam needs to give up some of his upcoming local projects including the soap, Alta with Gretchen Baretto, Angelika Panganiban and KC Concepcion, as well as a movie under Star Cinema with Bea Alonzo, to give way for the international project.
Hollywood has always been Sam’s big dream. This is why he grabbed the opportunity immediately even if it means sacrificing his booming career in the Philippines.
Did you know that Sam also almost made it on the hit TV series Glee? According to the Acoustic Heartthrob, he sent a video audition to the musical series just for fun. He uploaded his video on MySpace and sang Lean on Me by Bill Withers.

"Medyo it’s just for fun lang eh. Narinig ko na may audition sa Myspace. It was the last few hours na pwedeng mag-audition. So, nag-audition ako," Sam said.
Sam's audition video must have impressed the producers as he received an email saying that he was chosen to be on the show! "What I didn’t say was I was final-casted. I got an email saying, ‘You were chosen to be on the show, just fill out the form, etcetera.’ I eventually did but I never got a call. So, it was nice naman kasi you know how many who auditioned," he said.

MANILA, Philippines – Several Star Magic artists have come together for a charity event titled “A Night to Give Back."
The event, hosted by John Lapus and Maja Salvador, aims to raise funds for various organizations including ABS-CBN's Sagip Kapamilya.
Among those who performed during the event were Vina Morales, Guji Lorenzana, Marcelito Pomoy, Jed Madela, Rayver Cruz, Richard Poon, Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby.
Milby took the chance to clarify that he still has no guaranteed project in the United States. He added that he hopes to be part of a Hollywood movie.

MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN's "Precious Hearts Romances: Impostor" received a gold medal for being a nominee at the 2011 International Emmy Awards.
"Impostor" merited a nomination under the Best Telenovela category.
Rowena Benitez, the series' production manager, received the medal in a ceremony held at Hotel Sofitel in Manhattan over the weekend.
She also signed the Emmy poster, which is traditionally signed by all nominees in the International Emmys.
“Sobrang honored because we made it to the cut. There were several judges, 800 judges for 67 countries, so its already a feat being nominated. Sobrang privileged and inspired that we can produce world-class dramas that can make it to the international market,” Benitez said.
“It only means that the passion of the people behind drama is there. At 'yung hindi tumitigil para mag-produce at gumawa ng mga drama, na magiging proud tayo at kayang luminya sa programa in the international market,” she added.

"ABS-CBN's "Impostor" will be competing in the Best Telenovela category against Argentina's "Contra las Cuerdas," Brazil's "Destiny River," and Portugal's "Lacos de Sangue."
"We are very thrilled. The nomination is an honor and a validation of our team's efforts," said Laurenti Dyogi, business unit head responsible for the TV series aired last year.
“PHR: Impostor” starred Maja Salvador, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, and Sam Milby. It was directed by Jerome Pabocan and Neal del Rosario.
The International Emmy Awards is given by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS). The awards will be held from 18-21 November 2011"
