Just a thought: It is easier to cope with a bad conscience than a bad reputation. – Friedrich Nietzsche
MANILA, Philippines --  Kim Guapo: “Ang guapo ni Kim,” blurted out Gerald Anderson when we cornered him after the media event hosted by Dermablend, a soap brand he endorses, at a Quezon City restaurant August 16.
The young action-drama star was referring to Kim Chiu’s new, mannish look as a girl masquerading as a boy in her new teleserye, “My Binondo Girl,” premiering on channel 2 August 22.
While admitting that he misses working with his former leading lady, Gerald expressed faith in “Binondo,” where Kim is cast in a ticklish, funny role that’s right up her alley.
“She’s very good in those parts,” the actor said as he wished the show would be a hit even without him.
More Off-Beat Roles: For his part, Gerald is himself turning a new leaf.
Veering away from cutesy teen roles, he has boldly carved his niche in drama through the highly successful “Tayong Dalawa” and “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.” His commendable acting in the two long-running teleseryes fetched him more demanding roles, such as the boy with the Tourette syndrome, a disease that affects the nervous system, in an episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”
Gerald credits his appearance on MMK as the inspiration behind his landing the title role in his new teleserye, “Budoy.” The now-taping new series tells the story of mentally retarded Budoy, 23 years old but with the mind of a 10-year-old.
It is definitely a difficult role to play, Gerald admits, but one that he’s pouring 100 percent of his dedication to. The actor disclosed that immersion trips to a school of the mentally retarded recently left him devastated.
Gerald is paired opposite “Bata Pa Si Sabel” star Jessy Mendiola in “Budoy,” which hits channel 2 screens next month.
He’s also doing very soon his second film with Sarah Geronimo.
What’s Sexy for Sam: A girl who does motocross is definitely sexy, says Sam Milby on the same Dermablend event.
Sam, who has endorsed Dermablend Orange Papaya whitening soap for five years, claims he’s uncommitted at this point, but would love to hook up with a girl who’s daring enough to do motocross or other adventure sports. Those interested can probably take that as a cue to either a new romance or a broken bone or both.
Gerald Anderson and Sam Milby are credited by Dermablend president, Dina Stadler, as among the key reasons behind the widespread popularity and increased sales of her soap and other beauty products.
Sam has been her model since 2006. Gerald came on board in 2010 as endorser of anti-bacterial rich Guava Tea Tree Soap.
While the two actors haven’t really worked together, they are enjoined by a few commonalities. Both are Fil-Am’s with American fathers, Filipino mothers.
Sam grew up in Ohio, while Gerald lived for a while in San Antonio, Texas. Both actors were discovered on the same program, “Pinoy Big Brother,” although they came from different batches.
