MANILA, Philippines – Actor-singer Sam Milby, who left for the United States early this year to pursue a Hollywood career, is scheduled to return to the Philippines on Wednesday, May 16.

Milby, who shot to fame after joining the first season of “Pinoy Big Brother,” however, said his return does not mean he is giving up his dreams of making it big abroad.

He explained that he still has to finish several commitments, which include working on a new TV series and an album, and possibly a new movie.

During his three-month stay in New York, he said he has gone to a dozen auditions.

“Maraming magandang nangyari,” Milby told ABS-CBN News. “’Yung mga nangyari dito, all the experiences, mas magiging handa ako sa pagbalik ko dito.”

He said his experience in New York has boosted his confidence as an actor, as he vowed to return to the U.S. to try his luck anew and audition for the primetime TV casting season next year.

“All the casting directors are really noticing me, liking me, and that's a big thing. Let alone the agency that is taking me in, that already is a big thing,” he said.

No quick fix

According to Marci Phillips, director for primetime casting of ABC Entertainment, auditions are just the first step in establishing a Hollywood. The next step is to establish good relations with casting directors.

Making somebody into a huge TV star, which makes him into a film star …it takes a while. It’s not going to be a quick fix,” Phillips said. “But everybody that meets him (Milby) and everybody that auditions him love him. The building blocks are all there, so we're very excited about him.”

Phillips is also not worried that these casting directors will immediately forget about Milby, while he is in the Philippines.

“Somebody like Sam, they can go away for three years and never hear from them. They come back and ‘Oh great, boom come on in,’” Phillips said. “Whenever he's comfortable coming back, the sooner the better for us because we want to get him in on everything.”

Love for music

Milby said he is also grateful for his stay in New York since it renewed his passion for music and singing.

Milby was a special guest in the first concert of Filipino-American Broadway star Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, who currently stars in the revival of “Godspell.”

The fundraising show also featured former “High School Musical” actor Corbin Bleu and Fil-American actor Geroge Salazar.

Perez de Tagle’s manager, Kevin Jonas Sr., said he was impressed with Milby’s performance at the concert.

“Amazed at his talent, obviously the girls love him …He's gonna be okay, judging by the response of the crowd. He will be good. Take it slow and make the right choices,” said Jonas, who is also the father of the Jonas Brothers. -- Report from Don Tagala, ABS-CBN News
