MANILA, Philippines — While he and international singer Marié Digby still communicate with each other, Sam Milby said they have decided to remain just friends and will no longer bring their relationship to the next level.
“Ang hirap lang talaga kasi unang-una ‘yung schedules namin. At pangalawa for me it’s different pag magkakilala kayo in person tapos na-in love. Tapos nagkahiwalay. Parang naging long distance. Pero ito, nagsimula kami sa malayo. Nagsimula kami sa Twitter. Nagtu-tweet kami,” the singer-actor said in a recent interview.
Sam shared that the most recent he and Marié met was when she watched his concert in Japan recently. The actor stressed they did not go on a date after the show, and that it was only the fifth time they've seen each other personally.
Sam said he likes the singer's trustworthiness. Asked if he had ex-girlfriends, who were unfaithful to him, he said that he had his suspicions but these were never confirmed.
.
“Parang I can’t say that I’m sure about it pero may duda ako. May gut feeling na may something. Never ko naman nalaman kung totoo o hindi. But very strong feeling,” Sam said.
The actor said that though he enjoys being single, he is ready for a commitment anytime.
“Hindi ‘yun ‘yung isang bagay na pipilitin. It just happens. Wala akong dine-date. I’m just waiting, I guess. Kung mangyayari siya, mangyayari siya. Hindi ako ‘yung type na kailangan ng relasyon, ‘yung dependent sa relasyon. Okay naman ako kahit single ako,” said he.

MANILA, Philippines - The grand launch of Cinema One Originals was formally opened with the presence of the seven filmmakers, their cast and crew, former participants and industry friends. Cinema One channel head Ronald Arguelles said, “Six years and 37 movies since we launched Cinema One Originals, may we now drop the largely arbitrary distinction between independent movies and mainstream movies and just concentrate on making good-to-great films? In recent years Filipino cinema has been sustained and rejuvenated by the energy and vision of young independent filmmakers. The international film festival circuit has seen what we’re capable of, and given due praise. EJ Salcedo comes home to pursue filmmaking

MANILA, Philippines—Director Edward James Salcedo debuted his dramatic feature, “Third World Happy,” on Nov. 11 at the Sixth Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival, which unreels until Nov. 16 at Shang Cineplex.

EJ studied in the United States in the ’80s, but had to return to Manila when an uncle passed away. He shares, “Growing up, I was happy-go-lucky. But, when I went to the US, I felt the racism. It toughened me up and made me realize that the world isn’t a perfect place.”

He cast Sam Milby as a Fil-Am trying to pursue his dream as a painter in New York City. He admits that the film’s story is similar to his experiences. “I wanted to tell that story and the things I’ve learned from working as a copywriter. I have friends from advertising agencies who took on their jobs to help their families.

Dreams
“But, what they really want to be are comics-book artists, painters and filmmakers! People have dreams but they don’t pursue them, because they have bills to pay.”

Milby is deglamorized in Salcedo’s film. The new filmmaker recalls, “I stripped him of his being a matinee idol. Here, Sam wears shirts with holes. He is unshaven, and has unkempt hair.”

What will moviegoers learn from his film? Salcedo replies, “Sometimes, it takes losing someone to find yourself.” Joining Milby in the cast are Jodi Sta. Maria, Richard Quan and Melissa Mendez.

Kirstie Collera has been a long-time fan of Sam Milby ever since the actor appeared in Pinoy Big Brother in 2005.

Her dream of seeing the actor again became reality last weekend during the "Heartthrobs: Live in Guam concert". Held at the Father Duenas Memorial School Phoenix Center in Mangilao, the two-hour show hosted the talents of three other actors Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz and Gerald Anderson.
Alongside with the actors on the tour are comedienne/TV host Pokwang and actress Bea  Alonzo, adding to what was a comedic, fun-filled night.

Collera can agree that she is in love with the famed Sam Milby.
"Have you seen him? He can sing, dance, act, and do tumbling moves," says the 20-year-old. "I admire the fact that he is very soft spoken."The Guam Community College nursing student was able to meet Sam Milby and kiss him on the cheek during the last Heartthrob concert in March 2008."I always buy VIP tickets for all the concerts I go to, especially the ones I am interested in," says Collera.

The show

A long line of fans stretched outside the doors of the Phoenix Center, eager to grab a good seat to view their favorite artist. Laguna's Best Restaurant set up a concession stand towards the rear end of the venue selling light refreshments. An event brought to Guam by Metro Pacific Productions, Inc., the Heartthrobs concert is the second in its series to hit Guam's concertgoers and fans. iConnect, one of the concert's proud sponsors, was well-represented right at the doors of the Mangilao venue, collecting tickets, offering raffle entries for a flat screen TV giveaway, and helping out with the free photo session for the people interested."

On its sixth year of producing top-quality digital films, Cinema One presents its seven picks to be presented at the Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival from November 10 to 16 at the Shang Cineplex of EDSA Shangri-la Plaza. This year’s line-up includes a good mix of popular and independent film celebrities as well as some new faces to grace the big screen.

Sam Milby’s second foray into indie films is via the melodrama Third World Happy where he plays the role of a balikbayan artist who spent most of his life abroad and whose perspectives in life are changed upon coming home to attend a funeral and reunite with his ex-girlfriend and childhood friends. The Fil-Am actor says you will see a different side of him in the film. “Don’t expect the Sam na you usually see. It’s not a mainstream movie. Hindi naman namin ini-expect na magugustuhan ng lahat ito. It’s either you like it or you don’t. It’s a lot different. ‘Di ba you notice I do a lot of masungit roles? Dito, yung character ko, madami siyang karga. Medyo manhid siya dahil hindi pa rin siya naka-move on sa ibang bagay sa buhay niya,” he says.

Celebrity fun run | The Philippine Star News Entertainment

November 2, 2010

MANILA, Philippines - Blue Water Day Spa recently spearheaded a star-studded fun run at the Mall of Asia open grounds to show the importance of exercising and pampering. At the forefront of the successful fun run were Fabio Ide, Daniel Matsunaga, Karylle, JC Tiuseco, Amanda Colley Van Cool, Boom Labrusca, coach Rio dela Cruz and Sam Milby.
Fabio couldn’t contain his excitement over the event, even long after the marathon ended. He was so happy because it was his first time to run a marathon here in the Philippines.
For Daniel, the fun run was a chance for him to prove something to himself. The first time he joined a marathon (12k), Daniel experienced leg cramps because the distance was just too long for him. That’s why he was ecstatic when he crossed the finished line.
